MONDAY SELF, April 2026
I paint family and friends, travellers on the train or the plane, anyone who will sit for me and anyone near me who is watching TV or having a snooze, but the model who is always there is myself. I am looking for an authentic me in my self portraits, free from conventions, a version which captures my moods and perspectives.
MONDAY SELF painted itself. It was one of those pictures which flowed. I like the expression and the direct gaze. I find the body feels substantial. What I really like though is the composition of shapes behind the figure, the radiator, wall and corner of the canvas.
