EXPERIENCE I: DOG BITE, July 2026

As a rule I am an observational painter. This is an experiment, an experience painting. It is a moment in a narrative.

On the way to work I was walking along a shaded path under the trees when a huge Alsatian ran past and bit me. It was angry about something and saw my leg. Unexpected and unprovoked.

It gave me the idea to capture experience in paintings. The bite was on 7.7.26 and I painted it a week later using a mix of photos and remembering.

The mauves and blues of the peaceful path clash with the dog that breaks the pattern as it enters the scene. I love dogs, but this one conveys menace and meanness.
