EXPERIENCE I: DOG BITE, July 2026

As a rule I am an observational painter. This is an experiment, an experience painting.

On the way to work I was walking along a shaded path under the trees when a huge Alsatian ran past and bit me. It was angry about something and saw my leg. Unexpected and unprovoked.

It gave me the impetus to capture experience in paintings. I painted it a week later using a mix of photos and remembering. The mauves and blues of the peaceful path clash with the dog that breaks the pattern as it enters the scene. I love dogs, but this one conveys menace and meanness.
